  • Honeypot drinkers - anyone used?

I rather like the look of them - has anyone used one?

No but I have one very similar, but I have found it very tricky. In hot weather the seal gives a little allowing air in which forces the water out, thus emptying the container. Sort of defeats the object really. I find bog standard buckets the easiest tbh. In hot weather if you have a lot of chickens just put out two.

      Yes, I have one!
      Brilliant bit of kit.

I did have a learning curve.
It also has to be on level ground
I just couldn't understand why it was empty by the evening

I have two of the galvanised metal hopper types, with the plastic bowl beneath. I was very impressed to start with, as they enable a large amount of water to be available, meaning those in charge whilst you are away aren't tasked with carting water, and there's less chance of them going thirsty.

Unfortunately, they have corroded badly, inside, and I no longer use them. These plastic ones look like a better idea, but I worry about the integrity of plastic in the extreme heat and cold. Currently, I use wallpaper paste tubs, which are like planters, but cheaper. The shallow plastic trugs are also useful.

I don't use regular buckets, as I once had a Hen drown in one.

I've already got 5 buckets out (12 litre b&q ones), but they get manky quickly because of the ducks, I want a large drinker than the ducks will be disinterested in (as they can't get their whole heads in the water)....

            Hi OWG,
can you rig up an automatic drinker from a waterbut or simlar tank, to a small drinker you screw to the wall or somehting so the ducks can't get in? My friends use a small glavanised drinker that is always full because its gravity fed but doesn't overflow (must have a ballcock type thing??). I've got a palstic one that I haven't rigged up yet but it would take water from a tank which I elevated somehow...mind you i do only have 7 banties who don't drink much. It would stop the blackbird bathing int heir drinking water tho'....
