  • what fertilizers are safe to use if chickens are free ranging?

    hi all

    please can anyone let me know if blood fish and bone fertilizer for the garden and also rose fertilizer ok to put down around roses etc? my chickens free range so would hate for them to come into contact with anything that would disagree with them. any advice greatly appreciated. thanks. angela

    I don't use anything except well rotted manure and wood ashes around fruit plants, just in case.

      Yes, I've not fed my roses this year, now we have chickens...I guess I'll let their fertiliser do it

        What about using comfrey or nettles to make a stinky brew to water over things? Do you think that'd be safe enough?

          If you have chickens, they probably produce all the fertiliser your garden needs!

            thanks all for your replies. yes, as i thought i think the chickens do fertilise along the beds by the roses so think il let nature take its course! safer and saves me money!...result!
