First egg has pipped already - day 20

Woweee, I can hardly contain myself

First egg has pipped and luckily I ve got a busy evening so that will stop me looking every 5 minutes and really annoying Penny who has sat brilliantly for her 1st time.

Got the camera charged, hopefully photos to follow tomorrow!!!

No pics yet but I was greeted this morning by a very cute little head peeking out from under Penny. Ive managed a quick look and I could see 6 chicks - 5 fluffy and one still damp looking.

It also appears they are not light sussex but a sex linked LS x RIR cross. So far 5 buff coloured girls and 1 yellow boy from what I could see.

I'm just wondering how the rest are getting on with hatching and when Penny will start chucking the bit of shell out then I can count how many have hatched!!

The chicks are out today and looking great!

Final numbers are 8 girls and 1 boy! How lucky was that. We started with 11 eggs, 2 were blank after candling and the rest hatched perfectly under the broody.

I'm loving watching her teach them to find food and the soft 'bok bok' noise is great!
