  • Hopefully getting a couple more tonight

Perhaps, depending on if I like the look of the place and the stock are healthy.

Quick question though... I've a new coop for them, courtesy of veggiechicken - that I've repaired, and treated inside and painted to make it 'pretty' for my girls (as in, human girls, not chook girls ).

It's a low standing one, which means that they'll be able to collect the eggs (whole point of me getting them really!) - as currently, my coop is waist height for ease of cleaning. As I've an able and willing toddler now, she can clean them out - save me bending down!

Anyway, so the new coop is ready - I've put it in their run along with the other coop I built, but they're not using it yet (it's shut up so they can't get in yet).

When I do introduce the new pullets, should I do so at the same time of removing the old coop? I realise it may stress my current a bit, but I'm thinking whilst they're a bit disorientated getting used to their new homes they may as well meet the new kids on the block too?

I've a backup plan if things don't go smoothly (I'm not expecting them to, and am fully prepared for this).

Corr Chris, no advice from me as I don't know, but good luck. I'll be thinking of you. Are these the CLs?

No, but I may get a blue egg layer (a hybrid.. often turned noses up at as it's been given the legbar name, despite not being one - a cotwold legbar.).

Depends really, I've asked for him to keep the lot back before selling them which he has agreed to do so I can have a good look at them (won't be making the mistake of just being given birds again to discover that their beaks had been seared off as chicks..... then discovering the place was a battery farm - but that's another story ).

I quite like the look of bluebells - but he has some blue marans, and other marans (copper black, splash etc) so might have an oogle at them.

If you're going to the place we spoke about, I'm sure you wont be disappointed, Chris. Just be careful not to have one of every breed he has, or you'll be living in the coop, while the chooks take over your house! I had Bluebells from him and they were lovely girls. Living where I do, it had to be bluebells

Is this the P.M. Chris, that we've discussed before or are you going somewhere else?

Mine too, though she was a bit of a thug. She has a nice new home now, with a cockeral called Yanto, who won't take any messing.

I fancy a daisy and a black maran, I must resist...........only £22..........I think it would be good for littleun to have a couple more pets.

                  I know I do too..........

Perhaps when I come back from holiday.

I have a green egg layer, and a white egg layer. I need a brown and a dark brown layer. Its simples.

The blue wheaton marans look pretty.

                  STOP....

I also wanted other colour eggs, but have landed up with ranger chicks - RiR crosses. Needed to keep my broody happy!

Well. I did go there yes I was very impressed. Explained that I went to welsh egg before and he couldn't believe it. Nice chap, let me go in an examine all the birds.

Came back with a bluebell, cotswold legbar, an black
                      marans.

At one point I had 3 cotswold legbars in my arms as they're all so different.

Have decided to keep both coops in there for now- put the new lot in the new coop, once they came out of the coop I put one of my old lot in the run for 5 mins with some corn. Then another and finally the other after another 5 mins.

No fighting so far, they all were eating corn together. One peck and fluff up of feathers later and I think the newbies know their place.

I'll probably put the new ones in the new coop overnight invade any fighting breaks out early morning and at the weekend take the old coop out. Will put a pic up layer, just bathing my toddler (who is rather happy with the baby chickens )

Just picked the cotswold legbar hybrid (you can definitely see the cream legbar in them) up, plonked her on my lap and started to stroke her - I kid you not she went to sleep!

They seem very tame, which is good - my other lot from the evil place that I got them from weren't used to human contact at all.

                            Couple of piccies:

VC's old coop. Modified internally for more perch space, repaired and treated with creocote

                              Seren looks pleased too!!
