  • Drunk slugs- ok for chickens?

My housemate's allotment has a few communal chickens and ducks, which love slugs- I sometimes donate some of my pesky little molluscs to the cause, but would it be ok to give them dead slugs from beer traps?

I'm assuming it's not OK to use them after they've been rotting for a while, but how about fresh ones? I don't want to get all the poor chooks 'n ducks drunk or anything...

Eww. I think slugs harbour parasites which can pass to the chooks...but no doubt someone will be along soon with the correct and definitive info for you!

JM is right, they do harbour parasites, but the chooks would pick them up anyway so as long as they are fresh then it will be fine. You'll know if they don't like the alcoholic addition as they won't eat them!

Different animals have different tastes re: alcohol.

My French Bulldog loves booze: the Staffie won't touch it.
My Conure loves it, African Grey won't touch it.

Obviously they don't imbibe very much, just a dippy finger now and again if they ask ...!

I think the chooks would be fine.
