  • very sick hen update, its a miracle!

    hi all,
my sick hen has turned a corner it seems. i made an appt for her with the vet but when i came home from work she had really perked up. i found lots of green jelly like poo in house and run and watery poos but it seemed the more she drinks and poo's the better she becomes! maybe its all flushing through. she has since eaten sweetcorn and chased after me when i got the spade cos she knows that means worm time which was a delight to see her feasting on the worms. its such a relief when it looks like they are going to be ok. i have found something out though, i didnt realise that vets see hens like cats and dogs now? i was amazed when the vet said they see many chickens now, i thought it was only certain vets, so mind at rest in case anything else happens.
one very relieved chicken keeper here, lets hope it continues fingers crossed.

Great news. Not all Vets will see Chooks, but a lot will now, as they're getting more common again.

When I was a teenager one of my chickens wasn't well and I asked my father to take me in to the vet's with it. I had my pocket money to pay for it. When we got there I asked how much to make sure I had enough. The vet's wife was lovely and altho we had to wait until the end of surgery, she took me in with the chicken and it was all sorted and she didn't charge me for it. She said that they had hand raised chickens and knew how hard it could be.
