  • one lady passed, one lady poorly :(

Hi all, I went to sort out my ladies this morning and found our favourite chicken had passed away. No obvious reasoning as to why and then I found my 20 week old bluebelle very poorly. She is the brassiest little thing normally, I removed her from the coop and sat her on the grass and she didnt move. Her eyes are all puffy and watery and she is breathing quite hard. I now have her in a box on her own in the garage. I have given her water with acv in it but no food. What should I do? I am afraid it could be mycoplasmosis with all of this rain. In which case it would pass to the rest. Here is a piccie of her. She looks so sad, she has such beautiful colouring normally

Definitely looks v poorly to me. You may well lose her anyway but if you suspect myco then a trip to the vet for antibiotics is needed if you want to protect the others.

okie dokes, Im just so gutted. She is drinking, but only off of a spoon as her eyes are closed. Which I take as willingness, she isnt being forced to drink but once she knows its there she is lapping it up quite happily. She has managed to turn herself round inbetween me watching her. Nevertheless no better though. Its just strange one passed away and one got poorly in one night.

Have you taken her to the vet yet Jax? If it's something catching, the others may be at risk from previous contact, and the vet may be able to give you something to treat them all before that happens...

I spoke to the vet on the phone and he has said he doesnt think its anything infectious as the other birds arent exhibiting symptoms but to use colloidal silver in their water. Unfortunately our little lady died yesterday. The vet reckons that it is linked to the fact there was a storm that night and the run flooded (which I managed to drain that day) but it stressed these 2 too much
