should you worm if no sign of worms?

hi all
I am just about to get some barrier red mite powder for prevention i put in house). I have also noticed very tiny straw type things on my hens so am going to buy some barrier louse powder also.
I am also getting paranoid about worms as they have both stopped laying, should i worm if no sign of worms and how often should you worm hens? any advice would be appreciated. many thanks. angela

Think so. I do mine every four months as we free range. Think it's six months if not free range. Don't leave it if it's been a while. Who would have thought chickens could be so complex

Worming is recommended at least twice a year, more often if there no change of ground ie if they are kept on the same area year round. To see worms in bird poo means they are fairly heavily infested so definitely do it before they get to this stage. Flubenvet is the best wormer.

Every 3-4 months here too, they're free to roam in the garden so inevitably they'll be a parasite build up.

I try to aim to 3 months, but recently it's been a bit longer

I do ours 3 times per year, pens are rested and they rotate too. There are worms that live in the gizzard and crop that don't appear in droppings so flubenvet deals with these too- just 'cos you can't see 'em doesn't mean they are not there!!!!

i found the pretreated pellets the best bet,it saves all the measuring,weighing etc to get the right mix,and as i ordered it on line in the morning ,from england,it arrived noon next day,one of those jobs not to put off or forget..or they may give you the bird...i know...terrible..

Yes I bet these pellets are the trick. However, if you keep different types of poultry of differing ages- the powder is the only solution. I get it to stick to the pellets with veg oil. My mathematician genius son does the 'maths' 'cos i am thick.
