Beer for your slugs in future maybe. They fall into it and die. Then you dispose of them and put out another beer trap - it works and means that you have an organic way of disposing of them. Cheap supermarket bitter works best. Slugs have no taste!

Thanks for all your tips and hints, I will go and get some bitter and find some old jam jars out to ensure the next batch of chickens don't suffer the same fate. Hopefully the remaining one will survive and greet its new friends in a couple of weeks
