  • What do you call...

What do you call it when you clean the chickens out ...

What's the best way of describing the waste?
    Chicken waste?
    Bedding and muck?

    I call them 'dirty shavings'
    - what do you call your waste bedding/poops?

    as for the birds...

To call the hens I call .....'Girlie gals!!!!'
To call the geese I call ...'Cous cous' ( sounds like goose goose and they are likely to end up in a cous cous at some point )

Not much really. With only two at this time of year I doubt you will need to clean the house out more than once a fortnight. I'm currently doing mine every 7 or 8 days and most of the houses contain about 10 birds. The bantam house contains 20 birds so that mings a bit and I've just put 22 growers of various ages all in together so they will need a bit more attention. The turkeys are the cleanest, they hardly seem to do anything inside at all, geese a bit more messy but their poo is so innocuous (think mushed up grass, no smell) it's almost a pleasure doing them.

the duck house is by far the worse. Its like liquid gunge after about 3 days.

I just call it cleaning the chickens out. I use a big mucking out shovel and several trugs

Coop wise, I just take the top couple layers of newspaper out most mornings, fold up and put in the compost.

                            That's my method too!

And do we need a term for it.......
