  • Whats this?

    Hi all
Anyone got any idea what this is (see photo). The photo isn’t too clear but I found it in the nest box having been ‘laid’ by one of the girls. For the want of a better description it looks s like a bit of pink slimy intestines (not that I suggesting that’s what it is). Peggy, who I think produced it, is an ex batt rescue hen who we have had for 12 months. She seems to be in good health and eating OK. So if anyone has any idea what it is, what to do and when to panic.... please let me know.

they are fond of the odd bit of fish pinched from the cat's bowl, but no prawns. BTW this is the second time it's happened. Last time it was on Saturday morning and it looked more tubular (intestine like) than this time.

I think its called a lash, some of the reproductive tract coming away? thread on here: strange object in nest box refers to this too, if that helps?

Well, no need to worry -as far as I can work out it might just mean the end of her laying days?

I got the girls as ex batt rescue chickens anyway, the eggs were a bonus. It just that I had to sadly put Norah Battie to sleep on Saturday as she had some sort of tumour. I thought the first lash was connected to that. So now that she is 6 feet under (OK 3 feet) and I got a second lash, I was a little more than concerned. Thank you all for your help and support.
