glad she's going to make it.
the long term fox problem is more difficult.
hope you can find a solution.
we have gone for a series of wooden framed panels 6'6" high. Not quite as secure as buried chicken wire but we can move it when the grass ia exhausted.
Have given up letting them out at all as I only have to go round the other side of the house & a chick disappears.
Neighbour says he frequently sees a fox in our field when he walks his dogs.

Hi yoanbob, I've just found this thread. Very saddened to hear about the loss but glad that plum and elsie are both pulling through and that you two are coping ok.

Hopefully you won't need to but if you need to give rescue remedy and are concerned about the alcohol being in the system you can drop it on the affected area or just on the head. It works with the energy system of the body so doesn't need to be swallowed. Or just add one drop to the drinking water so it is very dilute.

BTW did you take some for yourselves?
          Bright Blessings

thanks for that EB hopefully there wont be a next time but info is stored in my head for futre reference, didnt take any at time but took some this morning, I sat 6 exams today, think i did ok in two, think i've failed 2 the others i dont know... will find out in a couple of weeks. proberbly should have taken elm instead but couldnt find if.
hi HF, elsie is doing ok, she is beggining to look better, a few feathers are starting to grow back, on the lesser wounds, but she is spending very little time in the water, she still cant reach her oil gland but shes getting closer, the crick in her neck is less prononced but i think she will always have it.
she is still moving slowly but shes back mixing with the chooks now and isnt having any problems.
plum has started to lay again so shes good.
elsie is quite old in duck years so i'm happy with the improvement we've got, if she could just reach her oil gland then it would be as good as we can hope for, bless her, shes more chatty now and not sleeping quite so much so shes doing really well, next vet update wed.

Great news there! Hope your exams weren't too stressful - glad I have left that well behind me! Older son starts his GCSE's on Thursdsay (where did the years go?) so I might have to get him something to keep him awake - he is not in the least bit stressed about the whole thing and keeps referring to his 'tests'

Hi Yo, I just found this thread, being a 'newbi'. I dont know the first thing about keeping ducks and hens, but I do know what it's like to care about an animal ... so glad to hear of elsie's great progress, and your perserverance when others might not have been so willing to nurse her so well. I wish there were more people with your spirit and caring attitude out there. All the best of luck in your exams too, let us know how you get on (what subject by the way?!). Love, Sue

                    Go Elsie

Elsie did it! the final milestone! she reached her oil gland!
                    GO ELSIE!
she can only reach from one side, but at least she can water proof now! thats all we needed to know to know that she can have quality of life!
shes still slow and doddery but she can swim eat and sunbathe, she can dig for worms! what more does a happy duck want?
shes much more chatty and generally back to her old self, just minor problems now that may not get better.

thanks for all the support and happy thoughts, it helped.

                    for those who are really that intrested my exams were;

Yuk for the exam titles (Madmax trained as a Radiographer many years ago and a couple of those subjects sound sort of familiar) Hope the results are good - what will your official qualification be?

Wahey for the Elsie news - that is just soooo brilliant. WOOT (as they say in California)
