Its usually our American friends who refer to autumn as 'the fall' but going by the state of our lawns, this year we are very much having a fall. I don't know what things are like in your area but this year, the leaves seem to be dropping very quickly indeed. Our front lawn has already got a thick covering of dead leaves. I wonder if its got anything to do with the lousy summer that we've had?
Later on today, I'll be raking them up and throwing masses of them into the chicken and duck pens. There'll be a few juicy creepy crawlies for the birds to eat, the tannin ( or whatever) in dead leaves is supposed to deter parasites and best of all, dry leaves make excellent free bedding. I'm going to move fairly quickly while we are having some dry weather, because goodness knows, we haven't had much of that this year. We've got a bright but chilly morning here, with the thermometer showing just a fraction above three degrees.
