Hi we bought them from the market don't think they were a variety just from the farm We feed them on chicken food, weeds, nettles the odd worm or bug. Everyone of them produced one egg a day if not two!!!! Sometimes you have to dig for the eggs as they bury them under the soft topsoil.

We feed ours chick crumb with some foreign finch mixed in. The love greens and will shred a cabbage rapidly. They seem happier with some hacked off branches of trees in their house and really didn't like being stared at by chickens - they stopped laying.

They tend to fly straight up and can injure themselves this way and if they get out they vanish quite quickly - though I once managed to catch one 3 days after it escaped.

Beware of rats - we had one get in and it made a real mess killing 11 out of 14 quail - since I stapled wire mesh over everywhere including the roof we've not had a return.

                  Good luck with them

We clip their wings but they will still get out if they can and are gone really quickly so be careful.
