  • Interesting chat................

I was giving my chooks some treats this evening and talking to them (as you do!) when I heard a voice from behind the 8'0" high garden fence seperating the allotments from someones garden saying "Those chickens stink"

Rather than carry on a conversation through a solid fence I went around to confront whoever made the comment.
I politely told them they were mistaken about my chickens 'stinking' and asked them to come around to the allotment and I would show them how clean my chooks were and how well they were kept and how there was definately no smell from them!
They took me to the bottom of there garden and there was no smell there at all. They then said it was only when the wind was in certain directions.

If they complain to the Council we could possibly be stopped from keeping chooks.

As a pre emptive strike I have decided to put a flyer on the allotment gate asking all plot holders with poultry to be extra vigilant in this warm sultry weather and make sure they clean them out reularily and that no smells are emanating from their plot.

I am in full agreement with the local householders who should be able to sit in there gardens on a sunny day without having to endure a stink from the allotments.

Could it have been something else smelly - manure, compost, comfrey liquid? Not yours Snadge, of course, but someone nearby? People tend to lay the blame on things (like chooks) that they know are there. I know what I mean.
The Flyer is a darn good idea though.

      Yeah, don't they just?
My neighbour complains about the 'stink' from my twig kettle ~ yet lights up a petrol-fuelled BBQ every time the sun comes out

Some people just believe that chickens stink ~ so they can smell a stink whether it's there or not
