can i feed my 3 chickens potatoe skins, boiled or raw ? also carrot peelings, is there any nutritien in them for the chickes, or should i stick to corn, cabbage leaves....
That's very interesting...I have had chickens off and on my whole life and I honestly have never cooked anything for my chickens...I gave them any parings, peels or skins or seeds whatever from my kitchen....if they didn't eat something it quickly became compost in the yard....even seeds and pulp from my jelly and jam making just got tossed over the fence....Chickens love to scratch and I often let them work my compost before I actually started using it in the bin...What ever I had collected...leaves, grass clippings, kitchen stuff, I just dumped by the bag full in a corner of their pen....before you know it, they were in the middle scratching and digging and helping me make compost...I love chickens...
According to DEFRA you are not allowed to feed any catering waste to any farmed animal type - hobby chickens count as farmed animals and anything prepared in your kitchen counts as catering waste. But... you are allowed to feed them vegetable scraps if they were prepared ie peeled in the garden
Stupid isn't it.

What 's really stupid is that we are paying taxes to employ these half-wits. They probably all have spotless four wheel drives and box-fresh wellies.
I'll put up a sign by the compost heap (also in urdu, polish, and cantonese) saying "Scatching about here forbidden"
