Purple comb, bright yellow runny poo

& lethargic behaviour - not eating and drinking. -- pretty much describes one of my hens, totally not her self.

I know she's on her way out, should I isolate?

Any idea what it might be? She's a messy bum from her watery yellow poos. Her crop has been empty for the past couple of days and refuses to eat anything I offer her now.

Rest of the birds seem fine.

If you are going to stress her by separating her it might be kinder. BUT I came across this thread (when I was checking my memory of BH) http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/13...n-someone-help and it mentions treating it with pepper - might be worth a shot.

Blackhead is usually a turkey problem and not often found in older chickens. When was the last time you wormed them?

Ah yes I've read that page.. She's just gone to sleep in a box the moment i put her in it taking long deep breaths.. Much longer than usual.

Yellow poo is often signs of a worm infestation. What did you use to worm them?

Marriages pre medicated w/ flubernvet. I've had a look at her poos closely and can't see any signs of worms.

Well, she died overnight as expected.. kind of glad I didn't have to cull her. Pleased she's gone now, as didn't want her suffering.

Part and parcel of keeping animals isn't it! El was saying that's why she doesn't like keeping them (animals).. and one reason why I don't get too attached to them (though I had a soft spot for this one!)

I think chooks/pets/animals of any sort are all part of your extended family and losing any one of them is difficult. Have a virtual cwtch
