Worming

Any recommendations on what to use to de worm? It needed as a preventative. I've never wormed them and had them since may so figure they'll need it before the years out.
Do you have to stop eating the eggs whilst they're being treated?

I worm every 3-4 months. I've only used flubenvet, there is no egg withdrawal. Comes in a powder or Marriages also do a pre-medicated feed.

I buy flubenvet from the UK and have it delivered here! The stuff I get here has at least 2 weeks withdrawal, and fv has none - no contest . I think you're supposed to do it every few months, not just once a year...

They were all wormed in may so I should get it done now I guess.

Have been googling flubenvet. Pricey stuff. I only have four chooks. What size pack should I get? Will it 'keep' if I don't use it all?!

If youve only got 4 chickens you will need the smallest that you can get. It dies have an expiry date but usually does last a while.
Why don't you look at the marriages feed with flubenvet? I think it comes in a small 10kg bag as well as the 20kg, also no measuring out the powder and weighing feed.

I have 8 birds (well 10 now, but 8 until a couple of weeks ago), and I buy a small 60g tub of 1% powder in a little box for about £16. It lasts me over a year, worming two or three times a year, and I've not gone over an expiry date yet - do you know anyone else with a small number of birds? Maybe you could buy together? Even so, it's worth £1-£1.50 a month to keep worms away, honest .

I have literally just taken delivery of the smallest pot you can buy. It's cost me £20 including delivery but lasts til the end of 2015 so I'm sure I'll get good use. Thanks for your help guys!

One more question. I fill up the chooks container and they eat. I refill every few days. How do I administer flubenvet if I don't know how much the chickens eat?!

Just add the powder to the pellets and only feed that for the week. They will eat enough - dont give any treats during the that week. If you only have a few chickens, you can add a pinch into a sultana/grape and feed them one each every day for the week.
