    I think those areas may still be to small for 3. Perhaps you should look at bantams?
    Read through some of the threads on here re: space/worming/ wood hips and how often they will need to be changed/liming the ground and also keeping the smells at bay.
    In a 6x8 space I'm sure you would have pecking issues...

    I wouldn't bother with grassing either - it won't last more than a couple of weeks.

      I'd be happy with Bantams, are there any you would recommend that lay a decent amount of eggs and are reasonably calm?

        Pekins are pretty, come in lots of different colours and are reasonably good layers. Look on the Omlet site https://www.omlet.co.uk/breeds/chickens/ for bred information.
