  • Chicken eye glued shut

Hi. One of my birds got up this morning with one of her eyes stuck closed. Can't see anything else wrong at the moment touch wood, but is there anything I should keep a lookout for? (was going to say keep an eye on, but it seemed somehow wrong...). I've just dabbed it with a tissue and some cooled boiled water so far, but it didn't seem to make any immediate difference. Thx

Lightly salted water ( saline) is what I would use kathy as it's more like tears for flushing.
Need to make it up freshly once a day as it doesn't keep.

Can you rinse/gently wipe it several times a day?...it may just needs to be able to open and her 'tears' will keep it OK.
Sometimes a bit of shavings or something has got in and needs rinsing out.

      Hi Nicos

I did wonder about adding a bit of salt, but thought I'd ask first. Having been down to see her again, her now appears to be open, which is wonderful. Hopefully you're right and it was just a poke with Dotty's feather last night or something (she sleeps almost on top of her sometimes). I'll watch her for a while anyway . I must admit I was expecting myco again, but maybe we'll avoid it this time... *fingers crossed *

Good to see you keep a close watch on your gals!
..fingers crossed here for you too- but she'll probably be fine.

Can you imagine you French neighbours showing such concern?

Not really Nicos, no . It's strange isn't it, the difference in approach? I think I'd rather be thought bonkers than uncaring
