  • The hen and the robin!

Today was the most beautiful mild spring like day and the hens were making the most of it. So wonderful when you think of the awful time they had in the barn. We also have a very tame robin who shares the hens oats!

It's been a wonderful Spring day here too!
We just get sparrow pinching the chook food. Perhaps I shouldn't say 'just' get them as I believe they are getting rarer these days???

    Lovely piccies Verinda!

We have a robin in our garden as well. First year it's appeared so maybe it is down to the odd bit of spilled chicken feed there for free. I'll certainly encourage it to stay since their offspring return every year

        Thank you Nicos

Yes there aren't as many sparrows as there used to be although I think they have been picking up a bit in recent times...hope I'm right. We have a few sparrows here as well but when I was a child we had zillions of them in the garden!

          Lovely photos, Verinda, as usual
Can't move for robins here but no house sparrows - plenty of dunnocks though.
My neighbour has 3 young chicks that have just been let into the run with the 4 layers. Spent ages watching them yesterday - their cheeps are so loud
One chick escaped through the fence and I was worried that it would get lost as it ran up and down the fence looking for the way back. Suddenly, it re-appeared in the coop stuffing its little beak. Clever things chicks, where food is concerened.

            Thank you VC

I think chicks and chickens are clever. One of mine went astray today and when I called her name I heard a distant "waaaaaa!" lol I was able to keep calling and following the sound and thankfully found her safe and sound

It was so nice to get out into the garden and start lightly forking some beds over..just enough to expose some nice juicy worms. Thought I would get some help with pest control but the girls just had a lovely time trying to get under my fork.
