Depends where you want to keep them, in the garden or allotment?

In the garden. I only want to keep 5-6.

I think you'd have ask your local council. I seem to remember there is something in our deeds about not keeping chickens.

There is no law barring you from keeping hens if you're a homeowner. If you rent you probably aren't allowed.

You'll note I say hens. Cockerels are generally not allowed but as WendyC said, it might be wise to check. Better to be sure you can before you can instead of getting them and finding out you can't.

I rang my council today and it's ok as long as not wanting to keep more than 50. But no cockerel as that's a noise issue!

Hello, I checked the deeds to our house and also emailed our local council to officially ask. I took a 'can I keep them/anything you advise' approach. I figured if I ever had to deal with the council due to a complaint at least I could prove I'd thought about it and seemed advice in advance. I've saved the email should I ever need it.

I was just going to say check your deeds they can sometimes have peculiar restrictions and livestock is probably not the most peculiar.
