Thank you!
Thank you all for being so kind - amazed that you all care so much. I feel like a chicken bore!!! Nicos I did contact the person - they said it was stress and they would be Ok in a few days! YoanBob you are right, they are social and the ill one just wants to be with the LS (see below!)
Anyway on to the Good News!!! Managed to find a chook vet about 20 miles away - and not only that but a vet that keeps chooks herself! Yippee at last we have one!!.
So instead of working this morning, I firstly had a long chat with her - re: the other vet not treating for Coxiwhatsit because it could be 'worse to give it than not' (I could pronounce like a pro this morning!) - she disagreed and told me to treat both chick and Light Sussex chick we bought with her. Also put them back together as they are rather inseparable. She told me to go to Countrywide and get some, but neither Cardiff nor Bridgend had any, so I rang the vet back and took both chooks to the vets - she was fine about them being together, gave more ill one another jab, and me some liquid antibiotic to give to both of them, as the Light Sussex' breathing is not fab.
Told me to feed little one with a syringe to make sure she takes in the antibiotics (eek!) Took them home and got back to office after dinner!!!!
Anyway finally got home just now and they are both still alive and chirping, at least have lasted the day, - little one wouldnt drink, so out came the syringe (have to feed at least 1, pref 2ml per hour of this water stuff).
This was fun....!
Touched sides of beak as instructed by vet, but no she werent having any of it!! Now we have a game - I basically have a drop on the end of the syringe and touch the bottom of her beak and then she takes it in, just now she was pecking the syringe to get more!!
Have put her back in her 'box lid with shavings+other chick with ironing basket on top as it is the most practical thing I have just now and they seem to like it!!
She is now pecking a little at her chick crumb....
Fingers crossed we have turned a corner. Yesterday her little head just rested on my hand, with no life in her really at all, a few times I thought she had gone. Today, she is definitely better. Just hope its not the calm before the storm, although it cant be - with all these vet bills she better start laying golden eggs!!!!
I think the moral of this tale is that we didnt bank on having chicks, were not prepared really for what it could entail, and just got carried away because they were so cute. Would do it again, but would be more careful and read up on what to look out for first beforehand. If this helps anyone, that will be a good thing.
Will update again tomorrow. xxx
