Strange eggs

Came home from work today on lunch to find this in the nest box, obviously two healthy looking eggs but one not so, can someone tell me the reason behind laying such small eggs? Should i be worried....? I haven't cracked it open yet but it also seems to not have much going on inside......

They are called wind eggs, not a problem. Often see them early on in the egg season. There will be no yolk inside, just the white.

You don't say how old your hens are so while it's likely it's a wind egg, it could be a youngster finally reaching POL and that's an early effort.

She started laying in December never had a problem so far, as long as there isn't anything to worry about then I'll enjoy the novelty of it!

I get the occasional wind egg too. As mentioned already they're usually if they've been off lay for the moult, or a broody spell, or sometimes just because!

Useful if you want to make a very small meringue...

I had one tiny one a few weeks back and meant to blow it to show peeps!....put it on one side and forgot about it..typical!!
