yep I had a few eggs where they are still warm - its fab. Any eggs I eat have to well cooked as I am expecting my first child so can not wait to have a nice soft boiled egg from my chickens.

We started off with one chicken laying and the other chicken followed a few weeks later. We get about 7-8 a week at present (only had them for about 4 months) but we save them up for the weekend for omlettes.

Learning that she seems to lay in the late morning so I have managed to find one still warm and get it straight in the pan. They are still more the size of bantam eggs tho. don't know when they get bigger. The first two were a normal size so I know now that a friend planted them there!!

Congrats Lozza when s/he due to arrive?

How's your new two doing Terry? Are they all living in the fine 5* accommodation together now? Have you had a blue egg yet?

I'll answer that one for TP. There's another whole thread somewhere with the trials and tribulations of our hens, but the quick summary is that little Kiev got bullied so badly, he/she is now living alone in a one-bed apartment, while the others live it up in the luxury penthouse. We say he/she, as we still haven't seen an egg from her, so there is still the chance that we have a cockerel!

Just one thought - if the first eggs had lion marks printed on them, then they may well be a tiny bit suspect... :-)

No, she keeps hens, drops off eggs with us every week and has just that sense of humour.

You should have seen Richard and myself rolling around laughing last night at the image of a hen whiping out a stamp and printing a lion mark!

I am still hoping that Kiev will turn out to be female - but he/she is suddenly producing a heck of a lot of extra feathers around the crest, muffles and hackles, plus his/her tail seems to be growing.......

            No crowing yet.......

Oh your neighbours are going to love this! Sounds like it might have been an unfortunate name then?

We're trying not to think about it - as a 'rare' pure breed she cost £36 - flipin' expensive meal!

I might have no choice but to try to sell/rehome him/her, but at the moment 'it' is happy living alone, being the only chicken allowed out every day and getting all the extra attention.

And on the basis of don't fix what 'aint bust.......

We had an Aracauna (excuse the spelling) cockerel and he was lovely, a real gent. Maybe all is not lost if Kiev turns out male

Well if nothing else I will let 'him' loose with the girls and breed my own blue egg hens!

Indeed, we had many hens that laid blue eggs. He was a gorgeous looking bird too and only crowed right at daybreak (unlike the banty cockerel our neighbours had which crowed all night long) and you could pick him up and have a cuddle too sometimes.

We're rather hijacking Puals thread but.....

You had an Araucana, who only shouted at a civilised time in the morning - wouldn't have been around 7am would it?

Liked to cuddled - yeah, got that.

Umm........ Had a lovely poll and muffles? How was the tail?
