  • End of an Era with chicken keeping....RIP Miranda

    Hi All,
I have really enjoyed contributing and gaining invaluable advice from this site over the years. My last hen Miranda aged just over 6 years old was put to sleep at vets after going down hill this week, they found what they think was a cancerous growth in her. I have so enjoyed being a hen keeper but alas the end is nigh....I can not have any more as my dog has elbow dysplasia and is only 1 year old, he has had surgery and his mobility will probably not allow him to live over 5 years old so I am now letting him have the garden to himself,i will have to think of the pets I have left. This is the last picture I took of Miranda 'sun bathing' only two weeks ago, they hide it well these sick hens, when symptoms show its often too late, in mirandas case it wouldn't have made a difference apparently. I shall miss my hen keeping days.
Also im not sure if this is appropriate but I am selling a lovely house and run only 18mths old, Im not sure if the rules allow me to post pics and advertise, it doesn't matter if not as it will be going on other sites. I will tap in to hear all your hen news, until then, farewell my feathered friends!

Sorry to hear of your last chook going, and also the dogs problems.

Sad when they go, but all the enjoyment they bring while they are here is worthwhile imo.

So true Feral, I had to have my dog put to sleep last week. It's so sad to see them go but the enjoyment they give you when their here makes it worth it. Wait a while Angelat, you may change your mind.

Sorry to hear about Miranda, but by the sound of it you gave her a happy life.

You'll see her again though. Oh yes. Animals have souls as we do.
When your 'time' comes and you pass over, all those you have loved and who have loved you (who have passed over) will be there to greet you, both the two-legged and the four.
(Or in your case, both sorts of the two-legged!)
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.

Sorry to hear Miranda has gone. It must feel very strange not having a chook around?
As the others suggest, hang on a while before parting with your equipment

Oh ..and nope..sorry...you can't advertise on here....but I'm sure if someone were to pm you then we wouldn't know

Do keep popping in...you have a wealth of information to share...I for one would have been much more hesitant to have got my first chooks had it not been for the support of this forum!

All the best with your dog too.

So sorry to hear about your beautiful Miranda and your dog too.

Like the others, I'd say to hang on to your hen equipment for a while...

This forum has been invaluable to me too especially when I got my four rescue hens last September, I so appreciated all the wonderful advice I received here.
