Flubenvet + using chicken manure in compost

I'm almost about to give my chooks their spring dose of Flubenvet. During this time, does anybody choose not to chuck their (potentially wormy) poo on the compost heap. If so, why?

Good question. Never even crossed my mind to worry about it. There is no withdrawel period for eggs using flubenvet and there are that many beasties lurking in soil and I am still alive and just about kicking . I am sure someone will be a long shortly to say why we shouldn't

All of it goes in my compost bin, or bags to compost down. I usually keep the chicken stuff for 12 months before using it, all eggs and stuff should have died off by then. Any worms that are expelled after worming are dead anyway.

Ha, that's exactly what I thought. If you can eat the eggs though,, I can't see the problem with it in the compost bin.

I have just wormed my lot with Flubenvet. all poo goes into the compost bin and the earthworms living in there seem fine. I guess if the girls had intestinal worms they would be dead before they get to the bin.

Ok, good to know. I've always just chucked it on the heap...I don't know what suddenly made me think of it!

Strangely I wondered the same thing recently, but after using french worming stuff with a 4 week withdrawal period... I wondered too late of course, so the compost is already full of it, but as I've not chopped stuff up or turned it for ages and it's not going to be ready to use any time soon, I'm hoping it'll be fine. I did read the eggs could remain viable for about 4 years in the soil though, which was a bit disturbing...

Again, something I probably should have thought of and didnt! My lot have flubenvet and also a natural one (forgot name) which is supposed to just try and prevent them getting them. All their muck goes on the heap, which goes on the garden. I am still alive, so far, so all is good, so far!

Have to say, have never thought about it. Expect they have a low level worm infestation most of the time in reality. Fixed run,free range and get wormed every 3 -4 months.The earth worms are potential carriers anyway I think...and then there are the mice living in the compost heaps....
