  • How often for corn??

We are new to keeping chickens and are unsure how often they should have corn. They always have their pellets available and fresh water but was unsure with corn. We give them grit daily too and oyster shell as well.

We haven't had any eggs yet but thing from what we have read they are a little young and should be ready very soon. We were told they are POL but have since read they may not be quite ready yet.

Give the corn late afternoon. Not much, a handful is enough for a few chickens. Scatter it so they peck around. How old do you think they are? Don't fight over that first egg!
New birds ! C'mon, let's see some photos

Once a day is great, thanks for that.

We bought them as POL but have since read a bit online that says they aren't quite ready yet when looking at physical features like the comb is small and not very red yet. all being well they will start soon. There is no fighting over the first one, the kids win that lol. I get the 2nd and the rest, I eat 6 a day at the minute so they need to hurry up

I will get some pictures up asap too.

You eat 6 a day ! We get through a lot of eggs per week. oH eats 2 a day and the kids aren't far behind. I bake often, last week I made a 10egg cake and a 4 egg choc brownie on one day alone.i've also made several jars of gooseberry curd this week too. Any surplus go in the freezer for the winter months when the girls are having a rest

Lol, I do indeed, well 6 days a week I eat 6 eggs, I have to have 1 day off because they get boring . To be honest I am the only one in the house who eats them regularly. My wife doesn't really like them and the kids are fussy but we still get through plenty. My wife loves to bake as well, her cake only has 4 eggs in though, a 10 egg cake must be huge. Cookies and cakes are our thing, brownies are great but we haven't mastered them in the house yet.

Yes it's huge! 10inch round and 5inch deep! It was for a special occassion.
I have a fab easy brownie recipe if you're interested? I've been cooking it for years and every school my kids have gone too they get asked for the recipe. As they've got older the kids have got cheekier they now let me when know when it's their birthday!

Haha, it must be a very good one, I would love the recipe if you don't mind sharing it, we always seem to mess them up.
