Yes, you are right, I was determined they were going out today but I delayed and procrastinated and then it was too late.

Our plot is rambling and no fences just banks and hedges. My first hens (rescue hens, Alice being one of them) became free range shortly after they arrived, mainly because I didn't shut the gate properly and discovered them out and about having a great time! Perhaps that better happen again, accidentally on purpose or they'll never be free!

They won't go far from where they sleep Verinda, they won't run off - go for it!

Oh thank you, that helps, I keep reminding myself that the exbatts didn't run off, my mum's hens didn't run off (although she did have a ferocious cockerel called Randy who kept his ladies in order!) and my granny's hens didn't run off and I still have sensible Alice to tell the others what to do, but I haven't let them out yet, it's making me feel guilty now.

I'm not at home much tomorrow so Thursday, definitely Thursday, out they go!

I did the dreaded deed! They loved it and didn't run off in fact after about half an hour they went back in the run! My exbatts were way more adventurous. Alice isn't in the photo, she immediately cleared off to her favourite haunt and left them to it

Ours are quite the explorers, but they always know where to come back to.

Lovely, looking birds, Verinda. Bet they're as jolly as can be. A proper chicken's life.

Thank you they were more adventurous today. This is Alice, enjoying a bit of peace from those pesky youngsters haha poor Alice has a huge comb, I read it happens from being trapped in the hottest part of the barn, she really deserves her happy retirement
