Oh bless my hubby - he is so good - he is constructing a new moveable chicken house/run for me! Well, not actually for me but for my girls Will hopefully get a series of "work-in-progress" photos starting tomorrow. At the moment they are housed in a monstrosity of a chicken house/pen that our Spanish neighbours built. It is a bu**er to move as it is enormous!!!!!!! We will be dividing the chickens up between us (not into joints I hasten to add) and going our separate ways with them. We have been sharing the chickens cost and eggs for the last 3 years. Our neighbour wants to benefit from the manure that they give. At the moment I do all the work and I have all the manure - simples! watch this space................. cluck

    Ooh! a chicken tractor!

I've always wanted one....in my minds eye it will fit my veg beds exactly, be lightweight and easy to move, have lots of ingenius features to make feeding/cleaning so convenient.....

Sadly though my measuring and carpentry skills are about zero. My husband is useless too.

I can't wait to see your pictures.....

Don't give me any more great ideas! My OH has no time at the moment for all the good ideas I keep having! He's the brawn and I am a mere weed in comparison, which is why my great ideas are always brilliant to me and tiresome to him!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

              LOVE IT!

Have you tried moving it yourself?
              Is it light enough?

You'll be able to clear perfectly sized strips for planting by just pulling it backwards every few days!

              I'm am so envious!
              Your husband is a marvel!

That is brilliant, will you be letting them free range as well.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

Yes I have tried moving it - it's a bit heavy but it needs to be here because of the wind. But I can move it. It will not be on my veggie garden - they will be mini-lawn-mowers! LOL!

Not letting them out any more now as my little dog "Chica" has been starting to stalk like a blinkin cat! And there are next door's dogs to consider as well. They are so unruly.

Do you have trouble with foxes and the like? Just wondering if it needed a skirt to stop them digging under? We attached a 1 foot wide frame, covered in mesh, and hinged it to the bottom so it's easier to lift when moving. So far no lost chickens.

Thanks for your concern but no fox problems here. We are too open for them I think and we have 2 dogs which would love to chase them away The new run is completely covered in mesh but the current pen has no top and is only 1m high - no problems for 3 years.
