Tonight, Mrs Brown and Mrs Black are sleeping in their new kennel-coop
Flap down
Flap up
Removable end in place
End removed for cleaning. It lifts out easily.
Two girls checking out their new house
The drop-down flap has been made from clear perspex with "rungs". Its hinged to the base and lifts up and fastens at the top of the door. Its been modified since the photos were taken with a bit of reed-screen to give them more grip.
So far, so good. It will be much easier to keep clean than the big shed behind it.

An Update!
Since the sad demise of Mrs Black last week, I didn't want Mrs Brown to be lonely so I'm having 2 ex-commercial hens from Red Hen Rehoming Wales - Red Hen Rehoming Wales. Picking them up tomorrow or Thursday.
To make more room in the "kennel" I've made an external nestbox from 2 tiers of a wormery. That was this morning and Mrs Brown has already laid her egg in it!
Hope the new girls get on with Mrs Brown as she's a very sociable girl. Yesterday she helped clear the GH

Looks good! Hope Mrs brown likes her new friends.
She's doing a good job in the greenhouse - when I had hens I'd always pop them in there for a bit to clean it out at the end of the year as well.Last edited by happyhumph; 06-09-2016, 06:26 PM.Another happy Nutter...

As requested - the 2 new girls! Apparently they are Isa Shavers, about 62 weeks old, from a farmer who is retiring. They lived in a barn and could go out to free range. Every morning and evening, the farmer would talk to them and they are very friendly. Can be picked up and stroked and don't run for cover.
Mrs Brown is not impressed and took herself off to have a word with next door's cockerel who lives the other side of her run. The pecking hasn't been too vicious though and tonight, they're all in the kennel together!
The puppies are curious - you can see them lurking outside the gate in the 3rd photo!
Any ideas for names?
