Broody poops before the eggs?

Last autumn I got new pullets including two cream legbars.

They've settled well (but they are particularly stupid birds ) however, they are the last to come into lay.
I have been keeping a close eye on them as they seem a bit subdued, spending far too much time in the coop and today they have both come out and done huge broody poops! (crikey...that smell is unmistakeable! )

Can they really go broody before ever laying an egg?

I've never had legbars but my Marans were rubbish, lovely birds, eggs a fantastic colour but they sit all through season sadly my last one died just befor the Winter. Good for sitting though if you've eggs to hatch.

..and my 2 Marans have had 2 broody days between them in 3 years!

So- you just never know!!

Really Nicos? how many eggs do you get from them?

They tend to lay about 5 eggs a week from March- Sept ...and then stop for the winter.
Last year was their 3rd year and each one probably laid about 2, maybe 3 eggs per week from May- Sept

Normally the locals sell on gals at the end of their 2nd year of laying in November as meat birds for the pot.
€12 per bird...the same as a young meat male cockerel.
Nothing goes to waste here!!
