Over-Confident Fox!!!

Was just in my garden having a look around my veg patches & I had let my chicken out for a supervised wonder. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a fast-moving orange thing which I initially thought was my neighbours cat, Whiskey, as he loves checking out my chicken. However, I then did a double take realised it was a large FOX out in pure daylight. I screamed and charged at him, and luckily it ran away.

I knew we have foxes here, but I've never seen one out in daylight before! I guess it's just a reminder for me just how fast foxes can be. If I had been further up my garden then the fox would have taken my chicken.

Btw, I have to mention that the fox in question was beautiful. Amazing colours and fur. But still NOT welcome here!

They have young at the moment so they will do anything for a few meals. He will be back, they don't just visit at night. How secure are your chickens?

I watched one climb over a 6 foot fence last week, with the same agility as a cat, noisier but quicker.

Ive had two fox attacks on my chickens, both times the end of May. A friend recently had all his chickens killed, it had dug under the fencing while he was at work. It's not a pleasant experience I couldn't be without an electric fence.

Agree about them getting over fences. We are surrounded by 2 metre fences with no breaks, although there are some climbers on some of them. We have had a fox in our garden twice recently and he's a big guy. Got to now check before we let Harry dog out as he is only a little Bichon...although he thinks he's an Alsatian! (we don't tell him otherwise though, don't want to disappoint his ego! )

I've got them on both allotments, they have been using my portable blue water pipe and debris netting hoop frame as a trampoline and have managed to break it and flatten the plants it was protecting.
