They are lovely. I so want to have some. Is it too late to let Sparkles sit on a clutch. I would love to have some little ones. Mine are completely free range. Will I need to lock mum up when and IF I get any chicks?

Not too late Bal, you will need a broody pen though. They can't just be loose outside.

Ha!...funnily enough, after 5 days my chicks free range during the day with their mom!

Go got it Bal...so long as you know what you will do with male offspring.

I have two black medium sized hens. One has a clutch of 8 bantam chicks..................and the other has just went broody!
She was sitting on a dozen large fowl eggs until I turfed her off today! I am beginning to wonder .................if she's still back clucking tomorrow I might let her hatch some LF?

Am I mad for even contemplating a double flock of new chicks?

I already have eggs comming out of my ears. I'm getting about six eggs per day which doen't sound a lot until you realise its 42 eggs per week!
Its the breeding of cockerels that worries me most though!

I bred seven cockerels out of nine eggs hatched once and finished up having spatchcock cockerels on the barbie when i had to get rid of them

I take in everyone elses 'waif and strays' when they get old and replaced and let them live their life out. Eggs are a bonus really!
