  • Sprouting seeds for chooks

I have a couple of bags of sunflower and pumpkin seeds - for humans but they're a couple of years out of date, so I don't want to eat them myself. Nor do I want to feed them to the chooks, just in case (of what I dont know, but just in case there's summat).
Some goggling has suggested sprouting the seeds first, then using them as chook food. They seem to sprout all sorts of grains too. Mainly to the small sprout (tadpole) stage though some grow them until they look like grass.
I'm tempted to try it while the girls are locked in and can't come out foraging. Just to give them some fresh greens.

    Has anyone here done this?

I used to do it with mixed corn sown in seed trays. Chooks seem to prefer the sprouted seeds, summat to do with the sugars methinks?

I have done this and found they like the fresh green at times when there is little available in the winter.
