  • Finally got my chickies!

Yay! They arrived last night and were put straight into the ark and shut up for the night.

This morning I had 4 very hungry girlies scratching to get into their run!

Will try and take a picture of them tonight!

          Hi Momol

They are Point of Lay hens, and are about 19/20 weeks old. They're on standard layers pellets (approx 100g per bird per day), mixed shell/grit stuff and also have a handful of corn at night.

Good news and have fun with them. Do try them with fruit, they do love it, and like a cabbage hanging up, an apple on a string keeps them occupied for ages.
I also give mine a few of any damaged strawberries or raspberries, love watching them each running off with a strawberry in their beak.

Oh and do collect egg cookery books, you'll need them, it won't be long before you're collecting wonderful eggs.
And when you get loads ask me for my lemon icecream recipe which uses 8 egg yolks! Have also, in another book found a cake recipe using 7 egg whites, but haven't tried this yet.
Look forward to the pictures and knowing what their names are
            best wishes
            Sue

Getting some new bantams tomorrow, so excited. They are Chamois Frizzle, seen pics of them online, they are beautiful looking birds. Really cute.

Oh I'm so jealous, congratulations, it will soon snowball from chickens to pigs. Are you just having them for eggs or are you going to breed them for meat too? Interested in having chickens but no room - boo hoo.
                            Best wishes

Don't mention the "P" Word!!! Mr OWG wants a couple of piggies for the pot! I think we ought to get used to dealing with the land, animals and growing stuff-thing before we start with piggies!

They are just for eggs at the moment. Haven't got the time for breeding currently, and don't really want a cockerel (plus, slightly uneasy re slaughtering chickens!)
