  • Quail?...yes or no???

So - do we get about 8 quail tomorrow morning? Just females.
we have a double concrete bunny hutch about 2ftx 5ft contained within the chook run.
The hutch is about 15 feet from a bedroom window.

how noisy...How much cleaning out...Just an impulse idea....

    Just an impulsive thought!

    your thoughts????...

Very odd getting a sensible answer from VC - if you're out there VC are you OK ?

Get them if you can look after them - they have such cute little eggs! Perfect for sppetisers, or have 12 for breakfast, of just to see how many boiled eggs you can fig in your mouth.......
        Another happy Nutter...

Its not a sensible answer from me! Just from those who posted on that thread.

All I can say is, if Nicos doesn't want a sensible answer, she has already made her mind up to get some quail tomorrow.

You'll see! VC can see into the future and she sees lots of titchy little noisy feathered things squawking in French

All I remember is that if you leave the run door open they just vanish over the horizon!

Also the cockerels sound like rattlesnakes!

My Dad has kept a few over recent years and all he has ever said is they are flighty little beggars and will go given the slightest chance. Apart from that they are fine. Go for it.

Can't recall where I saw it, but apparently they need way more space than you think for little birds.

In the set-up you describe, Nicos, might the quail live in constant terror of the chickens?

The girls are quiet it's the boys that make the noise. They need special feed which I found expensive and as someone said are very flighty. They can get through a very small space and if your clapier has the ordinary sort of grill you might need to put some finer mesh over it.

Guess what? I've given up on them!

You getting the chinese or japanese type Nicos ?.
The chinease are the smaller of the two and as already stated are very flighty but a delight and not noisy at all. The Japanese are bigger and the cocks are pretty noisy but as you arent getting any cocks it wont be a problem.

I used to keep the chinese type which were kept in a mixed aviery, they bred for me several times but the chicks are like little bumble bees and soo tough to protec tfrom the cold and wet, in an aviery enviorement anyway.
