  • Should i collect cosmos seed.

Cosmos seed is so easy to collect but has anyone out there been successful sowing it?
I realise it may... or at least I doubt it ...come true to its original.
Has anyone actually grown from collected seed. Very keen to know.

yes, go for it, collect them, it's easy and germination is good too

They will not come true - therein lies the fun and surprises.

Hi chillityme, I would be interested to try this as I love cosmos. A couple of Q's if I may.

Do you get a mix of colours?

Secondly, are the plants taller than the original 'shop bought' plants? I ask this because a few years ago I attended a guided tour at a local nursery who grow large numbers of bedding plants for garden centres, and they said that cosmos grows very tall unless some kind of growth retardant is applied (which they do). This has put me off growing cosmos from seed ever since.
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
