  • Looks like Oxford

and the red one in the post prior to that is very much like auckland.

    • I've just checked - the orange is an Oxford!

The pink one above it, I've saved seed from for the flower circle.

      • my Dahlias are still flowering fairly well - I'm planning to dig some up to over-winter as long as laziness doesn't intervene :-)

        • All of mine are getting dug up this year. I haven't in the past but last year the ones I dug up are far in front of the ones that were left in situ.

          • Mine are all still flowering.
You're right about the single dahlias, the bees love them.
I will still leave mine in the ground, just cover them well.
            Hopefully they will be ok.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I'm leaving some of the allotment ones where they are, but digging some up, as i'd planted them too close together, really. The garden ones will also get dug up as it's a bit of a frost pocket, the allotment is on higher ground, so frost and moisture just drop down the slope.

              • Great time of year for Dahlias, they should carry on flowering for another month yet with deadheading. If you leave them in the ground cut them back after first frost and stick a pile of compost over the top to help protect from winter. I lift my tubers as I grow the majority of them in containers.
