Anyone overwintering pelargoniums?

Just thought I'd share a picture of my overwintering pelargoniums. They are in a plastic greenhouse up against a south facing house wall so reasonably protected. As we seem to be in a warm spell I took them all out today checked them over and watered them before putting back. The majority now seem to be picking up well and regrowing leaves with only a few casualties to rot/cold and a few more yet to start back into growth, hopefully. Anyone else overwinter them?


The greenhouse is vertical, the picture is not. I don't know how to rotate it?.

Did you take that photo with an iPhone/iPad? That's normal for it to come in landscape. Before uploading, use the edit tool and slightly crop photo top and bottom and it will upload the correct way.

I've tried to overwinter mine in my greenhouse, but even though I'm in the south west my garden gets hit by frost and I can loose loads.
I've had better luck taking cuttings and keeping indoors during the winter before moving out to the GH early Spring

Mine are in the GH, still flowering. I can't bring myself to cut back anything in flower - seems so ungrateful!

I don't have anywhere warm enough to overwinter them as real plants so I have to be ruthless and cut them right back and strip all the leaves. Leaves them looking very sad but helps them survive for me.

I still have some outside in hanging baskets. They were there last winter as well (I forgot them!)
They wouldn't win any prizes for most attractive basket but it amazes me that they've survived so long.

I used to take cuttings and overwinter them and the cut back roots of plants in greenhouse covered with fleece. Unheated, don't water- approx half survive.

But it's hassle : now i buy 20-40 very small plants as now and pot them on in the house. Cheaper, less hassle, better results..

I've have some that have survived the last 2 winters, in the cold greenhouse, so hopefully they'll make it through this one as well. Just left in their pots with some fleece over the top when it looks to turn freezing. When the weather warms up a bit, they get cut down to stumps - but regrow fairly quickly
The only 1 that comes inside each year is a lemon-scented one that I brought back from Greece, that one can curl up it's toes at the first hint of cold

Mine rarely survive in the cold greenhouse, so I bring them in the house and put them on windowsills. Those without direct light get a bit leggy but they all survive.

Dunno about pelargoniums but I overwinter geraniums in a "VC stylee" - they get left out front of house - so somewhat sheltered from the prevailing winds - essentially forgotten about despite being next to the front door. About 80% survival so far - some have drowned due to poor pot selection on my part, but for the most they are doing ok - actually think some have flowered in the last week or so...

Mine are in the cold greenhouse.
They stay in there every year and all survive.
One or two of them are in blossom at the moment.

It may be where your GH is sited? I'm in the south west so you'd think mine would stand a chance in my GH but I've never had much success. I do better with cuttings that overwinter on my window ledge.

AS I said before my lemon scented one lives on the kitchen windowledge for the cold months
