moving hydrangea

I have a hydrangea that is not thriving. I feel this is due to the competion around it, so I want to move it to a better location.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best time to do this? Now, when it is dormant? Any other suggestions for the move?

Was it just last year?? They need copious amounts of water. If it is dry my plant visibly droops and then perks up when given a watering. I gave up in the end. I just couldn't keep up with watering it.

If I was moving it I would do it now.

No, unfortunately. It has been in this spot for some years and I have been remiss in getting it sorted.

I never watered the poor thing (after the first year) and it was kind of wedged by an apple tree. I have a prime spot it sorted. I will put this on my weekend to-do list!

Yes, I'd get it moved too asap. Mine has fresh growth on it, and if yours is the same, the sooner you can move it the better

Give it a good soak a couple of hours before moving it then a good soak when moved and keep as much soil as possible on the root as you can and do it as soon as possible, and try to plant it in an area where it won't get any cold winds
