  • Hibiscus dead??

Hi all - has anyone got a Hibiscus? I put one in last year. Today it has no obvious leaf buds. Should it be in bud now or is it too early?

It’s a bit early, they are slow to come into leaf.

Maybe as late as May or June apparently. Hang on in there!

Too early for mine to have leaves, I seem to recall end of April beginning of May last year but I didn’t take that careful a note. Flowered in June though as have photo on my phone.

I have an orange hibiscus but it has never lost its leaves in the winter. We don't get it as cold here as in the UK but we sometimes get snow. I always thought hibiscus was evergreen.

I think we have to grow a different variety here, hibiscus syriacus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_syriacus

Boatsman, the one you have may be this https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=841 Lucky you, I've had them indoors as houseplants, and I'd love to grow them outdoors, but no chance!
