Lupin aphid

Grew my lupins from seed last year. This year they look fantastic. Big, bushy, lots of blooms about to flower. But. I discover today they are infested with Lupin aphids! Everywhere! Any tips? Spray them with soapy water?

Sorry to say but I have never been able to save Lupins once they have these huge horrible aphids. They seem to live in the soil and keep reinfesting. Soapy water might work if you do it on a daily basis or other than that something nasty and systemic.

I’m determined to save them. I’ve nursed these 9 plants for over a year now. And they are finally looking full and great. I’m going to spray every day and keep my fingers crossed. Although once the aphids are here, as you say, they will keep coming back. Sigh.

They are truly horrible I usually squash aphids but these were so disgustingly huge I just couldn't (like little green grapes, honest). I have never grown lupins since. Good luck!

We were vigilant and got at them with soapy spray every day and they seem to be under control. Predatory insects are now out in force as well. And the lupins are looking great! So don't be put off. Looks like these little monsters can be beaten.

I find aphids are attracted to yellow lupins most so I don't grow any yellow ones.

That's interesting, I'd like to try lupins again, I could avoid yellow. I can't remember what colour got the awful infestation. What colours do you have with the aphids Rosendalemark?
