Looks like one of the Hypericum family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypericum
Tough old things - bright and cheerful and the bees love it.

I think I might have that,I’ve never known what it was,I cut it right down every year to make way for crops,it loves growing back into a ball shape if you leave it,I leave some stems with buds on but reduce the width & make space below so the plants narrower. Its quite forgiving with hard pruning. Its just been flowering (photos from 30th June 2017 & a photo from Thursday you can just see it on the right hand side). I wonder if it’s the same,it might not be

I have just shiftd a hypericum 'Hidcote' to a less prominent part of the garden as OH thougth it was a weed.My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Diversify & prosper

St John's Wort is a Hypericum. It's a native species, fairly low-growing, and spreads like wildfire. It's an invasive species and considered a noxious weed in many other countries, where it is not native.
The larger, shrubbier species tend to be less problematic, although even they can spread.Last edited by ameno; 26-11-2019, 06:58 PM.
