  • Transplanting lupins

    Hello,

A couple of years ago I grew some lupins from seed, they did well and I planted them out on my plot, in my rose bed. Well last year they took off in Spring and totally took over the bed, I had no idea they grew that large! A lovely display, but they crowded out my roses, so I decided to get rid of them this year.
Well last weekend I noticed they were already sprouting strongly, and dug them out (needed a pickaxe!), and I'm wondering if they're worth replanting on the periphery of the plot somewhere... will they give another good display of flowers this year, or is the first (flowering) year the best one? Are they semi or fully perennial?
If they're not going to do much, i can't justify the time spent digging new holes for them, and they'll get chucked.

    OMG! You lucky boy!!!
Plant away - they will be fab. When they don't give a good show is when the plant starts going hollow in the centre. I've had one in my garden for about 15 years. I've just dug it up. Separated it into a few bits and planted it back.
When mine haven't come back, I blame slugs.

Thanks Scarlet, in that case I'll make an effort to get them back in the ground somewhere before they die!
