Planting under conifers

Between mine and my neighbours garden there is a small wall and conifer hedge (planted their side). I would like to plant along that edge of the garden. What would be best to plant by the conifers?

Sounds like a tricky spot. Next to a wall is always a bit dry. Conifers suck out all the moisture from the soil as well. So you need to look for drought-tolerant plants and be prepared to water them.

Which way does the wall face, does it get much sun? How wide a border do you want to plant up?

Hi, the garden is south facing and the hedge starts creating shade from around lunchtime.

I don’t really have a border size in mind, it is a front garden which I would like to be nice and colourful instead of just grass.

Hi Thora and welcome I agree with Martin - shade loving plants will do you well there, so have a browse at what you can get that will enjoy that

I’d say the dry conditions are more to worry abou than the shade. The conifers suck everything dry!
