Potting on

Please forgive another silly question, but after you have raised your seeds in the tray, you need to move them on. I know you can use small 3" pots, but can you also use multi cell trays so that they can then be taken straight out to the garden for planting, rather than having lots of small pots standing around. I suppose this thread really follows on regarding growing from seeds.

I haven't read the previous thread, but can't you just sow your flower seeds direct into the multi-cell trays, thinning if necessary? Thats what we do.

Yes i agree, dont faff your seedlings about, sow directly into the cell trays, thats what plug plants are really.

Sounds good to me. So you ignore the standard seed tray, and go straight to the multi cell system. Should I be looking at a minimum size of multi cell.

I think it all depends on what your sowing, how many seeds per cell, how long you leave before sowing and planting out.... on..and on...

Bit trial and error really. Perhaps leave your sowing a bit later so your plants don't get too congested in the cells.

I always just put one seed per cell, that way the roots wont get tangled up in each other. aAlso when you go to plant out there will be less disturbance. Good luck workhorse.

i put 1 eed per cell for bigger seeds and 2or3 small seeds & remove the weakest, but don't be tempted to sew too early or they'll go leggy
