Hi AP
Like your name - very clever !
Are these established bulbs or is this their first flowering year ? It may be that the bulbs are not deep enough, or were disturbed early in their growth. I would be interested to know if anyone else has any ideas as the same happened to crocus bulbs in a garden that I look after at weekends, though these bulbs were disturbed during growing.
Cheers

Floppy crocus !
Hi again AP
I put the question of floppy crocuses to another forum that I participate in and here is the reply (posted by a guy who actually runs yet another forum).
"I've noticed that it is a trait of some species and cultivars of Colchicum (the autumn crocus) to flop. One reason why they are not as good as container plants; in that situation the characteristic is more pronounced. I don't think that cultivation has any bearing on this although I would suggest that the best siting for them is among shrubs.
Birds can make a mess of both crocus and colchicums, but I'm sure you would have noticed if thatwas the case"
So it would appear that perhaps they are just floppy plants who decide they can't be bothered with the effort of standing up, and that there is nothing that you or I or anyone else for that matter can do about it !

Hello Anita, I have noticed that my autumn crocus tend to flop over. Not a new trend so I think they just grow like that. BUT, my spring crocus also just flop over. I think this might be temperature related. NOT suggesting global warming, but maybe just a naturally occurring (that spelling's not right!) warmer spell. I'm sure I read somewhere that even half a degree in temperature change can have big viability impact on plants. Maybe other grapes could post on changes they see as temperature related.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
