  • Moving hellebores

Moving house shortly (next month or so) and have some hellebores that are just about to flower for the first time. I'd like to take them with me - can i dig them up and put in pots now or won't they like it??

I know that self-sown hellebore seedlings transplant well, so as yours are young plants they should be OK too. Make sure you dig up all the root and put them into pots straight away. Keep shaded and watered (shouldn't be a problem this time of year). Good luck.

I have moved hellebores this time of year too, I'd take the flower buds off so they put their energy into putting down new roots instead, should have better recovery that way and a much better show next year.

You might find that they 'sulk' for one season after moving, but they will recover the next season, if my experience is anything to go by.
