  • Passionflower from seed?

    Dear all,

I got a catalogue from J Parkers with stunning passionflowers and I'm wondering if it's possible to grow them from seed, how long does it take till they flower and where can I buy the seeds? Or else is it better to buy the plants? (they're £20 for four, so a bit beyond my budget!)

    Many thanks!

I have some seed that I saved last year if you PM me your address I will send you some! I haven't grown it from seed myself, was given mine by a friend, it's very prolific and she dug me a bit out of her garden. Mine has grown very quickly and is sprawling over my pergola, it looks great.

I am trying from seed and it is quite complicated to get them growing : first you need to brush them gently with some paper glass, put them in warm water for 24h, then keep them in a propagator in hot temperature ( minimum 20degrees but then they have to be at around 30degrees for min 6h a day), even with all this care it can take a few month to germinate!!!
Thats the informations I have, and the one I follow as its the first time I try .
Mine are on this treatment for two weeks now...and nothing yet!
      Be patient

I wouldn't bother buying the seeds : I found some of the yellow / orange fruit on a pavement last year, each containing dozens of sticky seeds and am propagating with some success now.

Man have I got my work cut out!

So I've got to sand them down, soak them in water, bake them for a few months...

                Better get my finger out!

                Thanks Lainey
